Project Learn
Project Learn reinforces the skills and knowledge young people learn throughout the school day. Project Learn includes POWER HOUR, a comprehensive homework assistance program. Each day, programs are offered in 5 core areas: Education, Sports Fitness & Recreation, The Arts, Health and Life Skills and Character and Leadership Development.

Youth of the Month
Our Youth of the Month celebrates a club member who has shown great participation, worked hard during our homework time (Power Hour) and embraces our club rules of showing respect to themselves, others, their club and having fun. Congratulations
EJ for being our January Youth of the Month!

January Showcase
Fine Arts was offered 3 times each week and focused on all the mediums we have studied so far this school year! Our members created some masterpieces that will be displayed at Crossroads Community Center for our Fine Arts exhibit starting January 25th. Outside judges will come in and nominate the best piece from each category and each age group, those pieces will go on to represent the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue in the Regional judging. Pieces chosen from Regional’s will go on to Nationals and those winners will receive prizes as well as their artwork displayed online at http://www.bgca.org/FineArts/default.aspx. Keep your fingers crossed for our members!

Gym Wars ended this month and we will begin planning for the Theater Intramural that begins in February. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue is partnering with the Bellevue Youth Theatre for this session of intramurals to put on a production! Our members will work with actors from the Bellevue Youth Theatre to improve their acting skills, practice lines, create props, and perform for the community. For more information on the Bellevue Youth Theatre, visit their website at http://www.bytf.org/. This exciting opportunity will require travel from our Club location to the theater via Club van and therefore requires a permission slip to participate

Lake Hills will hold their monthly Latin Family Night in February, date to be determined. Childcare is provided by the Lake Hills Boys and Girls Club team.

Guitar Lessons are an exciting new program that we are offering at Lake Hills Boys and Girls Club. They are held every Wednesday and Friday with a group of 6 members and a community volunteer with years of guitar experience. Participation in this program is currently full but we invite you to stop by some time and give our members a listen while they practice!

Special Programs This Month
The Lake Hills Winter Talent show will occur on Thursday February 2nd from 4:30-6:00 p.m.! Families and faculty are invited to attend.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue Fine Arts exhibit will occur in late January with artwork to be displayed at Crossroads Community Center. Community members as well as families are invited to stop by Crossroads to see our works of art on display that will later go on to the National Fine Arts contest!

Lake Hills Elementary will be holding their next Latin Family Night on Wednesday February 15th from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Programs offered at Lake Hills Elementary
This month we are offering a wide variety of program options. We offer:

  • Power Hour, homework help and tutoring program that helps Club members become self-directed learners.
  • Triple Play: is our healthy mind, body and soul program, combining exercise with healthy eating and healthy competition.
  • Digital Arts: teaches our members how to create art using computer programs. This culminates in a festival each year.
  • Imagemakers: is a unique program usually offered at our teen Club sites where members learn the basics of taking, editing, and displaying photographs. We are excited to offer this program at Lake Hills this session so that we can introduce our members to new skills in the art of photography that go beyond the standard point and click.
  • Fine Arts: is a year long program which teaches our members how to work with different mediums of art such as watercolor and pastel.
  • SMART Moves: a program designed to help members make healthy choices, develop good decision making skills, improve self-confidence, and grow as an individual.
  • Cooking Club is a favorite as well where members learn how to make a dish, and eat it too!
  • Club Zoom encourages members to get creative with science! Members are lead through various science projects each week that teach them something different about the world around us.
  • Torch Club and Service Club are our two leadership Clubs where members work as a close team to help organize fundraisers, special events like Family Night (November 17, 2011), Blue Friday (November 18, 2011), and the programs that we offer. Torch Club is for members in grades three through five and Service Club for members in kindergarten to second grade..
