July 2021

Dear Friends,

As I look around our Clubs today, I am filled with hope and optimism. I see happy, excited children, every one of them laughing, playing, and enjoying their summer camp programs. Staff are prioritizing health and safety, easing daily anxieties while creating a second home and a safe space where young people have the freedom to focus on reaching their full potential. Days like these are made possible because of amazing Club community and supporters.

75 weeks. When summer camp finishes on August 20, that's how long our Club staff will have provided full-day programming to the Bellevue community. In June, Bellevue Reporter recognized this feat by honoring BGCB as the 2021 Best of Bellevue's Community Service Nonprofit. We did not have a playbook to help us get through perhaps the most challenging year in our 70-year history, and I am so proud of how our team showed up day after day, week after week, to fill the gaps for children in need and as a lifeline to our families.

To recognize our dedicated and committed staff after this extraordinary year, for the first time ever, our Clubs and administrative offices will be CLOSED from Monday, August 23 through Monday, September 6. This period will serve as a time for employees to rest, relax, and refresh for the year ahead, ensuring we are fully prepared to serve our children and families this fall.

The past year was not easy, and we continue to prepare for the challenges ahead, but support from our community and the smiling faces of our youth keep us going. Thank you for believing in the future of Bellevue.

With gratitude,

Tim Motts
President/CEO

P.S. Be sure to scroll down to see some highlights of the excellent work our Clubs have accomplished during the first half of camp!

Lake Hills Teen Center takes learning outdoors

Members rolled up their sleeves and built a brand-new garden filled with veggies, perennials, and even a couple of Japanese maple trees! After all the digging and planting, teens took a well-deserved break to tour the Bellevue Botanical Gardens.

Staff get extra creative with camp's ocean theme

Preschool staff led engaging underwater inspired activities for our littlest members! See above how members stayed busy learning about ocean animals and even crafted their own personal beach-in-a-box. Over at Spiritwood Manor, members made "sand slime."

Vote YES to renew the Best Starts for Kids (BSK) levy - KC Prop. 1

BSK Levy funding has helped BGCB provide free care to nearly 200 youth experiencing homelessness in Bellevue. Renewal of the BSK levy will allow BSK to continue to make a critical difference across the county for children and youth, including support for the work here at BGCB.
